Maths in Room 11 this Week!

This week we have settled into the swing of things and all learning has really taken off. We have started our clinics and are doing some amazing learning.

Miss Johnson is especially proud of these students who are persevering to learn new maths strategies.

These clinics looked at making tidy tens in order to solve addition equations. For example they had 8+6=, using these tens trains they took two block or numbers from the 6 and carried these to the 8, making the new equation 10+4=

This Clinic looked at adding two digit number by using place value. For example Miss Johnson gave clinic 4 the equation 26+13=. In pairs were used the place value blocks to make 26 and 13- we then added the tens and the ones together.

Example:
                            26+13=
                            20+10=30
                             6+3= 9
                            30+9=39

We had another great Google Meets session today, thank you to all of the students that took part. Miss Johnson set us a Math Challenge today and was really impressed with the work that everyone did.

Lockdown was very unexpected for the everyone in Room 11, but I am very proud of how well everyone is handling it and getting on with their online learning.

I have had great discussions with parents and we had a great Google Meets session this morning. The work I have been sent throughout the day has been wonderful to see.

Here is some of the work Room 11 has done during Day 1 of distance learning.

Katherine and James' All About Me Posters

Write a letter or card to your teacher. Tell her anything important about yourself and your learning that you think she should know.

Dear Miss Johnson,

I have some very important information to tell you, it is my first time working on a Chromebook for learning. So I don’t know that much but I am hoping to learn fast.

It is also my first year here because I have moved house. I used to live near Cosgrove School. At Cosgrove I worked in a book or on paper and I didn’t  use a Chromebook.

If you didn't know I love art and I love to paint, draw and colour in. I also like to draw things for my mum and dad. I usually draw in pencil then go over it with a vivid or marker.

I hope I get to write on a Chromebook more often because it doesn't make your hands tired.

Thank you for reading my letter,

From, Alexis.
